I wrote four stories this year. Well, three and an extra one that I sent in the mail to my drink swaps recipient and have finally decided to enter into the NYR collection, because, okay, I wrote it during the Yuletide period for a Yuletide prompt, I've convinced myself that's fair.

The fandoms were Legendsong - Isobelle Carmody (an incomplete book trilogy consisting of Darkfall and Darksong); Seafort Saga - David Feintuch; Rosanella - Anne Claude de Caylus; and Dragon Prince Trilogy - Melanie Rawn.

long happy rambling about things I wrote )

And I mentioned my gifts, right? ^!^

In conclusion, my writers were lovely, my recipients were lovely, I wrote things I'm pleased with and I wrote in canons that challenged me as a writer. I just need to work on realistic goal-setting and time management.

By goat, bear, bunny, hippo, or grue, I have received Yuletide fic!

Shone with Salt (1043 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Solitaire - Kelley Eskridge
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Snow Laussen/Ren "Jackal" Segura
Characters: Snow Laussen, Ren "Jackal" Segura
Summary: Bodies in absence displace their weight.
Relationships are defined by the things that happen between events.

I've considered requesting this canon for some years, and my jaw dropped when I realised I was actually getting it. This is lovely. Everything is hints and possibilities; the sections set before the book events create enough warmth between Snow and Jackal that they make their canon parting ache even more, and the sections set after project Snow and Jackal's support of each other into the future. This ticks off a lot of my personal boxes for fic, including the 'home is where the heart is' theme that is a minor, beloved theme from Solitaire.

I am not sure the fic is particularly comprehensible without canon, because of how it deals with the echoes of many tiny, important things - but heck, I love this book, go read this book, come back, read the fic.

A Sudden Rush of Gold to the Head (1891 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Danger 5
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: background Ilsa/Jackson
Characters: Ilsa, Jackson, Tucker, Claire, Pierre
Additional Tags: POV Outsider, Canon-Typical Violence, Canon-Typical Crack, Yuletide Treat
Summary: The Danger 5 team gets a new military liaison. At first he’s a bit bemused, then terrified, then charmed, then dead. Hitler, of course, lives on.

This fic's author also seems to have been working off a bingo sheet of Things Morbane Likes in Fic. But crossing off very different squares! It has outsider POV - OUTSIDER POV - I love it when authors create OCs to show canon through new eyes. And actually, this poor character's journey feels a bit like mine upon watching the show. Bemused, terrified, charmed, check… Perhaps I should wear Kevlar to watch the forthcoming season 2. But back to the story - it is fast-paced and wonderfully absurd. It is very quotable.

I also have the gift of three very appreciative recipients. That's always excellent.

And, um, of the ten rules I set myself for Yuletide this year to stay sane… I think I broke seven.

A book-pimping post (because 'review' would be misleadingly neutral).

At the moment I'm doing a lot of thinking about stories and very little writing of stories.

So. Accountability! A list of WiPs/intended stories and a goal: finish fifteen of these before Yuletide 2013.

In no particular order )

So let's see if I can come back and strike through a few of these.
